A 42-year-old Springfield woman was sentenced Tuesday, March 10, to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to embezzling more than $600,000 from her employer.
Melisa Ann Juline Jaragosky pleaded guilty in December to 14 counts of aggravated identity theft and seven counts of first-degree aggravated theft.
After being hired as an accountant in 2018 by Harvey and Price Co., a Eugene-based mechanical services contractor, Jaragosky wrote herself checks from the company’s account, the Lane County District Attorney said in a news release. Jaragosky forged the names of her supervisor and owners of the business, the district attorney’s office said.
From April 2019 until March 2025, Jaragosky stole $642,000, admitting to authorities she had given stolen money to family and friends, according to the news release. Jaragosky also used the money to finance a home and two cars, prosecutors said.
Lane County Circuit Judge Charles Zennaché also sentenced Jaragosky to two years of post-prison supervision and ordered Jaragosky to pay $642,013.90 in restitution.
State records show Jaragosky previously worked as a certified nursing assistant but had her license revoked in 2008 after a finding of abuse by the Oregon Department of Human Services.
