The fear about U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement captured in the June 27 news story, “ICE raids shake Oregon’s wine industry,” is infuriating. These ongoing raids and detainments throughout our country frequently contradict President Donald Trump’s claims that ICE is simply capturing murderers and rapists, and the so-called worst of the worst.

However, every time I read or hear these accounts about ICE, my first question is, “Who did they vote for?” In this specific case, who did the owners of the Oregon vineyards vote for president? If it were Trump, then they helped create the mess Moises Sotelo-Casas, a well-known figure in the Willamette Valley wine community, is now in.
