The 37-year-old Springfield man was arrested in July and later pleaded guilty to menacing and various firearm charges.
A 37-year-old man arrested after Lane County Sheriff’s deputies said he fired shots in their direction pleaded guilty Sept. 30 to first-degree burglary with a firearm and unlawfully using a weapon, among other charges.
David Anthony Raymond, from Springfield, was sentenced to 48 months probation, a lesser sentence than recommended under sentencing guidelines.
Raymond must also enter into a program administered by the Lane County Adult Treatment Court, if eligible. Lane County’s treatment court program aims to help participants avoid substance abuse and, if needed, receive mental health services.
Lane County Circuit Judge Michelle Bassi imposed the sentence after Raymond entered into a plea deal with prosecutors. Raymond had not previously been sentenced for gun crimes, so he avoided what otherwise would have been a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison.
The sentence included 30 days in jail with credit for time served by Raymond.
Prosecutors never charged Raymond with assault, but he also pleaded guilty to two counts of misdemeanor menacing in addition to the weapons-related charges. Raymond also pleaded guilty to first-degree theft, which involved theft of a firearm, according to court documents.
Lane County sheriff’s deputies arrested Raymond after responding July 28 to an armed confrontation northeast of Springfield on the 88700 block of Easy Lane.
A resident had reported a trespasser on their property, and Raymond “fired a shot into the ground when he refused to leave,” according to a sheriff’s office statement.
After firing additional shots upon the arrival of deputies, according to the sheriff’s office, Raymond spoke by phone to a crisis negotiator and ultimately surrendered.
