QuickTake:
School officials said a “change in leadership” was necessary after the team's 63-0 win over Cottage Grove. Jake Lowther assumes interim head coach duties.
Zach Loboy was removed as Marist Catholic football head coach following his team’s 63-0 win over Cottage Grove on Friday, Oct. 9, Marist athletic director Rick Gardner confirmed Tuesday to Lookout Eugene-Springfield.
Mid-Major Media first reported the story.
An email sent Monday afternoon from Marist Catholic principal Bob Fraley to football parents and guardians said that “Following Friday’s game against Cottage Grove, we determined that a change in leadership was necessary to reflect our school’s mission and values.”
Late in the second quarter of that game, Marist scored to go up 56-0. On the subsequent kickoff, the team attempted an onside kick. Cottage Grove recovered the kick, but threw an interception during the following series of plays. Marist scored again near the end of the first half to take the 63-0 lead into halftime.
Loboy, who had coached at Marist as an assistant for several years and took the head job in 2024, is replaced by interim head coach Jake Lowther. Lowther joined the Marist staff this year as the offensive line coach and assistant head coach following a stint at Cascade High School. Marist (3-3, 2-1) plays next at North Bend (3-3, 2-1) this Friday.
“We recognize that a coaching change in the middle of a season can be difficult for players and families,” the email continued. “We appreciate your understanding, support, and prayers as we navigate this transition. Thank you for your continued commitment to Marist and our student athletes. May God continue to bless you and your families.”
Loboy did not immediately return a call from Lookout.
