Thousands of runners will participate in the Eugene Marathon and related races Saturday and Sunday mornings. Some roads in Eugene and Springfield will be closed to traffic.
Several roads around the University of Oregon will be closed for the morning on Saturday and Sunday, as runners compete in races of various distances as part of the Eugene Marathon weekend.
On Saturday, 2,700 runners will race the 5K, which starts at 8 a.m., and several hundred children will compete in the 1-kilometer Duck Dash. Agate Street between 13th and 18th Avenues will be closed at 6 a.m. and reopen at 10 a.m.
Several other South University neighborhood streets, including University, Harris and Alder, will close at 7:30 a.m. and reopen at 10 a.m. A complete list of closures and the Eugene 5K map are available on the marathon website.
Sunday, more than 10,000 runners are expected for the marathon and half marathon, which start at 7 a.m. The marathon website lists seven neighborhoods that will be affected: South University, Fairmount, Amazon, Southeast, Friendly, River Road and Springfield (west of Pioneer Parkway West and between Main Street and D Street).
Some roads close as early as 6 a.m. and those closest to Hayward Field (Agate Street and Franklin Boulevard) won’t reopen until 2 p.m.
