Restaurant inspections
County officials regularly inspect food facilities to ensure compliance with state laws. Here, Lookout Eugene-Springfield reports both those who have passed the inspections and those where the county observed issues to correct. The county’s full ongoing reports can be accessed here.
- Hole In The Wall Bbq at 1807 Olympic St., was cited for issues during a county health inspection on March 25. The restaurant scored 89 out of 100. The inspector found that the outdoor handwashing sink near the meat-smoking area lacked hot water due to a leaking water heater that had not been repaired despite previous warnings. The restaurant plans to provide a temporary handwashing setup there until repairs are made. Additionally, copper mugs used for acidic drinks like Moscow Mules were found unsafe for food contact; these mugs have since been removed from use. (view report)
- Burrito Boy – Olympic at 1889 Olympic St., was cited for issues during a county health inspection on March 25. The restaurant scored 89 out of 100. The inspector found that the employee restroom handwashing sink initially lacked paper towels or an approved hand-drying device, but this was fixed during the reinspection. Additionally, potentially hazardous foods like cooked beef and chicken taquitos were stored at unsafe temperatures (46-48°F) in a refrigerator drawer, which was repaired and now keeps food at 41°F or below. All improperly stored food was discarded during the inspection to ensure safety. (view report)
- Taqueria El Trenecito at 1505 Main St., was cited for issues during a county health inspection on March 25. The restaurant scored 95 out of 100. Inspectors found three food containers in the large refrigerator not properly covered, and raw chicken was stored above ready-to-eat foods, risking contamination; these were corrected during the inspection. Temperature devices in refrigerators were missing or unreadable and need to be fixed. There was some food debris buildup behind and under equipment, requiring more frequent cleaning. Three broken refrigerators and unnecessary items clutter the kitchen and must be removed. Floors, walls, ceilings, and carpets in food prep areas are not smooth or easy to clean and need improvement. Note on today’s report: Some of the incidents listed are not recent. This can happen for a couple of reasons: Delays in agency reporting — sometimes officials don’t file reports right away, or agencies release batches of reports weeks later. Delays in public complaints — people may not notice or decide to contact police until some time after an incident. Please contact the responsible law-enforcement agency or your local elected officials if you have concerns about their delay in releasing information.
