Restaurant inspections

County officials regularly inspect food facilities to ensure compliance with state laws. Here, Lookout Eugene-Springfield reports both those who have passed the inspections and those where the county observed issues to correct. The county’s full ongoing reports can be accessed here.

  • Tararin Thai Cuisine at 1410 Mohawk Blvd., was cited for issues during a county health inspection on October 15. The restaurant scored 94 out of 100. The inspector found leftover food and grease on the can opener and dirty thermometer probe, which were immediately cleaned. Some ready-to-eat foods had old date labels, which were corrected and staff were advised to remove old labels before washing containers. Raw fish was thawed properly but should be removed from vacuum packaging during thawing. The building needs repairs, including worn pantry shelves and rusty racks. There was also dust and debris buildup under equipment and in the walk-in cooler, which must be cleaned regularly, especially when food exposure is minimal. (view report)
     
  • Calle Steelo Taqueria Llc at 1650 Centennial Blvd., was cited for issues during a county health inspection on October 15. The restaurant scored 97 out of 100. During the inspection, it was found that a handwashing sink was partially blocked by items, preventing proper use; this was corrected immediately by removing the items and staff were reminded to keep sinks clear and only use them for handwashing. Some refrigerators in the mobile unit lacked independent, accurate temperature gauges, which must be installed to monitor food safety. Additionally, parts of a refrigerator door near the driver’s area were broken and need repair or replacement to ensure surfaces are smooth, durable, and easy to clean. (view report)
     
  • Taqueria Oaxaquena – Warehouse at 1491 Mohawk Blvd., was cited for issues during a county health inspection on October 15. The restaurant received a score of 97 out of 100. The inspector found that the warehouse was being used improperly, with several open and unsealed food containers and prepared foods stored there, which is not allowed. Warehouses can only store unopened packaged foods, utensils, and equipment. Food preparation, storage of prepared foods, and other activities must happen in the mobile food unit or licensed locations. The issue was fixed by removing all open food packages from the warehouse and placing them in the mobile food unit during a follow-up inspection. (view report)

Roadwork is affecting traffic near you

  • Long-term projects: Mill Street is open to northbound traffic only between Main Street and Centennial Boulevard because of reconstruction work. Detour signs are posted. From June 16 to about August 31, southbound Laura Street in Springfield (between mileposts .120 and .339) is closed for construction, including utility and storm system upgrades, sidewalks, and paving. Access from Lindale Drive to Laura Street is also closed. Northbound Laura Street remains open. Detours are in place. The project is expected to finish by December 31.
