Good evening,

The superintendent of Springfield Public Schools is on his way out. The school board last night voted to negotiate a resignation agreement with Todd Hamilton, who has been head of the district since 2019. The last six months have been a bumpy ride, though, with complaints filed, lawsuits threatened, teachers laid off and the school board chair quitting.

Lane County allocated what an analyst called “fun money” to rural communities — funds from the transient lodging tax — that locales can use to promote events and tourism. The biggest chunk goes to Florence ($237,519) and the smallest to Lowell ($17,621). Ben Botkin reports.

A 60-year-old Eugene man missing since mid-December was found dead by a hiker outside of Ashland. Damon Lee Petrie’s exact cause of death is pending an autopsy.

Eugene police jailed Adam Samuel Charles, 54, on suspicion of stabbing another man downtown near Sixth and Lincoln. The victim was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Michael Zhang reports.
