The body of a 60-year-old Eugene man missing since mid-December was found Saturday, Feb. 7, by a hiker outside of Ashland, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.
Damon Lee Petrie was reported missing in the Ashland area Dec. 18.
According to news reports from December, Petrie was last seen near the Green Springs Inn, about 17 miles east of Ashland. Deputies, detectives and search and rescue teams searched the area, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
The hiker found the body near Mill Creek Drive and Highway 66 outside Ashland, the sheriff’s office said. Sheriff’s office medical examiner detectives identified the body as Petrie.
The cause of death is pending an autopsy and toxicology report, the sheriff’s office said.
