Good evening,

Oakshire Brewing says it plans to close its taphouse on Main Street in Springfield, at least for now. Owner Jeff Althouse tells food and dining correspondent Taylor Goebel that the pub, known as Oakshire Commons, simply wasn’t busy enough as an after-work-style hangout. He says he plans rethink the space and potentially reopen later in a different form: “Hopefully it’s just ‘see you later’ and not ‘goodbye,’” Althouse said.

You may have followed my colleague Ashli Blow’s reporting earlier this year on the scrap over emergency department staffing at PeaceHealth hospitals in Lane County. It culminated in a legal battle based on a new state law that regulates corporate ownership of healthcare facilities. Today, our friends at the Oregon Capital Chronicle write about a new report saying that the Oregon law — and others like it — have indeed helped slow private-equity deals in the healthcare industry nationwide.

Ashli also covers environmental issues here, as well as public health. And she helps lead our wildfire coverage during fire season. She wants to know if you or anyone you know has suffered health effects from wildfire smoke. If so, she’d like to talk with you for a story she is working on. Reach her at newroom@lookoutlocal.com.

A man was charged yesterday with violating a stalking protection order after allegedly crashing into a woman’s car and showing up at her work wearing a disguise. Clinton Louis Stockbarger, 49, faces a variety of charges. Jaime Adame has that story.

A woman reported to police Tuesday that she woke up to find another woman in her bathroom with two swords. Eugene police later located and arrested Nicole Angelica Arredondo, 31, police said. Leo Brown reports.

By Shaanth Nanguneri / Oregon Capital Chronicle

The findings reference a 2025 law aiming to combat the corporate takeover of local healthcare clinics — and which was instrumental in reversing a change of ER providers at PeaceHealth in Lane County.
