Lookout PM: Another PeaceHealth departure

Public health reporter Ashli Blow reports that PeaceHealth told its staff today that Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Richard DeCarlo will retire in August. He will be the third top PeaceHealth executive to exit the organization since mid-May. The departures all follow the monthslong emergency department staffing controversy.

A Harrisburg man died Tuesday while paddleboarding in the Willamette River near Clearwater Park south of Springfield. The Lane County Sheriff’s Office said Ervan Dominick Lucia, 26, apparently was caught on a snag before rescue teams found him face down in the water. Jaime Adame reports.

The 41st Oregon Asian Celebration is happening this Saturday at Alton Baker Park in Eugene. It opens with a Chinese lion dance at 10 a.m. and continues until 9 p.m. with food, music and more. Admission is free.

The Oregon Department of Human Services has barred South Hills Rehabilitation Center in Eugene from taking in new residents for now, after a 67-year-old wheelchair-bound woman with dementia was found dead after slipping away from the facility. Leo Heffron has the story.

An inmate convicted in 1999 of the murder of her 3-year-old daughter, Tesslynn O’Cull, has died in custody. Stella Ann Singingcrow, also known as Stella Ann Kiser, 50, had been serving a life sentence in Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville. Singingcrow’s then-boyfriend, Jesse Caleb Compton, was also convicted of murder in the case. Jaime has the story.
