A 31-year-old Eugene truck driver was among two people killed in a head-on collision Monday, Sept. 14, in Wasco County south of Mount Hood, Oregon State Police said.

Dagoberto Moreno-Prada died at the scene of the collision on Highway 26, roughly 70 miles southeast of Portland.

State Police responded at about 9:15 p.m. Monday to the two-vehicle crash.

Moreno-Prada was driving a gold Volvo semi hauling a 53-foot freight container east on Highway 26. Based on a preliminary investigation, police said Moreno-Prada lost control of the vehicle while navigating a corner, and the truck rolled and slid into the westbound lane, where a Jeep Grand Cherokee struck the truck head-on.

The driver of the Jeep, J Natividad Martinez-Colin, 35, of Vancouver, Washington, also died at the scene.

Police said the freight container, essentially a large steel box, and the Jeep went through a guardrail, coming to rest off of the road. Highway traffic was affected for about eight hours.
