Donate three cans of food and play a free round of mini-golf this weekend at Camp Putt in Glenwood.
The “Putt for the Pantry” event Sept. 18-20 will help restock the Willamalane Park and Recreation District Food Pantry, which is facing increased demand. A news release from Willamalane said the pantry served twice as many people in July and August this year as it did in the same two months of 2025.
The pantry usually receives most of its food at events that encourage donations in lieu of admission fees, such as the Children’s Celebration and the Concerts in the Park series. This summer, those events collected more than 5,000 pounds of food — but in the face of rising demand, Willamalane seeks additional donations to help fill the gap.
Donations to the pantry also can be made during regular business hours any time of the year. The most in-demand items include nonperishable, high-protein foods, such as tuna, peanut butter and beans.
A full list of high-demand items is available at willamalane.org/food. Monetary donations for the pantry are also accepted online through the Willamalane Park Foundation.
The pantry is open every Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. and is located at the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, 215 West C St., Springfield. There are no income verification or personal identification requirements. For information, call 541-736-4444.
Other food programs at the Adult Activity Center include a monthly community breakfast and daily senior meals. Food for Lane County also hosts a mobile food pantry at the Bob Keefer Center, 250 S. 32nd St., Springfield, on the fourth Friday of each month.
Camp Putt is at 4006 Franklin Blvd. Hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
