Eugene Springfield Fire and Lane Fire Authority responded to a brush fire Sunday morning near where the Beltline crosses Highway 99.
According to a Lane Fire Authority Facebook post, firefighters responded at 9:30 a.m.
“Firefighters from multiple departments are working together to manage the incident,” Lane Fire Authority wrote in a post around noon Sunday. “Residents may see a significant emergency response in the area. Motorists should expect emergency vehicles in the area and use caution when traveling nearby.”
Eugene Springfield Fire said in a Facebook post that the fire was across from Jerry’s Home Improvement Center and was found in a small railroad trestle.
“Due to the creosote-treated heavy timbers, the fire could be seen across the area,” the post stated.
Lane Fire Authority did not immediately respond to Lookout Eugene-Springfield’s request for information about the cause of the fire, but wrote in a reply to a Facebook comment that it was “undetermined at this time.”
Robyn Tysver, spokesperson for Union Pacific, the rail company that owns the tracks near Highway 99, said Union Pacific temporarily stopped train traffic this morning at the request of Eugene Springfield Fire.
Mindy McCartt, public information officer for Oregon Department of Transportation, said ODOT crews closed northbound lanes on Highway 99 and one southbound lane from about 9:30 a.m. to about 1:30 p.m Sunday.
