Springfield police are asking the public for help identifying a white crossover SUV and driver they say struck two pedestrians, continued on and collided with a vehicle, then made a U-turn and again collied with the same pedestrians, one of whom died at the scene.

This story has been updated to report Springfield police said they found the vehicle they suspect of being involved in the collision, and with information from Deputy Chief George Crolly.
A 36-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder after a stabbing Friday, Aug. 7, outside a Springfield business was driving the vehicle police believe was involved in a fatal hit-and-run collision Thursday night, police said.
Witnesses told police the fatal stabbing took place at about 2 p.m. Friday in the 2800 block of Gateway Street, an area that includes a shopping center.
Medics transported the victim to a hospital where they later died, police said. The person killed was not identified by police Friday night.
The suspect in the stabbing drove away in a white SUV, according to witnesses. One of the witnesses followed the departing vehicle and provided police with “real time updates” on the suspect’s location, police said.
Police arrested 36-year-old Edgar Solorio Lopez, of Springfield.
Springfield officers and an Oregon State Police trooper found Lopez standing outside the vehicle he had been driving, a white 2011 Nissan Murano with damage described by police in a statement as “consistent with damage observed and expected to be found on the suspect vehicle in a fatal Hit and Run incident.”
Lopez was arrrested without incident, police said.
Hours after Springfield police released images Friday morning of a vehicle suspected in the Thursday night fatal collision, police released an image of Lopez and asked the public to call police if they saw Lopez at any time Thursday or Friday. The phone number to call is 541-726-3714.
The investigation is ongoing, police said. Lopez was booked Friday into Lane County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder in connection with the stabbing.
In the reported hit-and-run, a married couple walking on Sixth Street in Springfield were struck twice by an unidentified driver Thursday, Aug. 6, with the collisions killing a 73-year-old man and causing life-threatening injuries to a 73-year-old woman, Springfield police said.
Randall Alan Fultz was found dead in the roadway, with the initial collision taking place at 8:56 p.m. near Sixth and G streets, police said. Pamela Anne Fultz was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment.
Springfield police said Friday afternoon they had located the white crossover SUV suspected of being involved in the collision. Early Friday morning, police had released photos of the vehicle provided by a witness and asked the public for help identifying the vehicle.
“We’re exploring the possibility this was an intentional act. We’re also exploring the possibility this was an accident, or this was an impaired driver,” Deputy Chief George Crolly told TV station KVAL in an interview before police announced the vehicle had been located. “We just don’t know,” Crolly added.
Crolly said police were also searching for any relevant video footage, such as from doorbell or dash cameras.
“Unfortunately, we don’t have Flock cameras anymore. That was a tool that would have been useful for us in this instance,” Crolly said.
In a news release, police said the SUV was headed northbound when it first struck the pedestrians, then continued on without stopping through the intersection, where there was a second collision with a westbound Toyota Prius.
According to police, the white SUV made a U-turn and, while headed southbound on Sixth Street, again collided with the pedestrians.
