It’s time for funnel cake and country music, if that’s your scene. Here’s how to be ready if you plan to go to this year’s Lane County Fair, which opens this week.
Ladies and gentlemen, let me be the first to say: yeehaw. If you have a hankering for fair food, livestock, Ferris wheel rides and the like, the Lane County Fair is this week in Eugene — from Wednesday, July 22. to Sunday, July 26.
Here’s what to know before you go.
How can I get a ticket?
Tickets for daily admission are available for purchase online or in-person at the ticket booth. Cost is $10 for adults 13 to 64 years old; $7 for seniors 65 and older, first responders, military personnel and children 6 to 12 years old; and free for children 5 and younger.
Admission to the Lane County Fair can be purchased until an hour before closing each day.
There are multiday tickets available for purchase online, in-person at the Lane County Fair Business Office or the ticket booth on Wednesday only:
- Season passes, for access on all five days, are $24.
- Three-day passes, for access on any three days, are $20.
There are also two discount days for specific attendees:
- On Wednesday, opening day, children 10 years and younger will be admitted for free if they bring a dressed-up fruit or vegetable, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- On Thursday, senior, military and first responder admission will be discounted to $4.
What is there to do and see?
It’s a county fair, so there are some of the classic fair festivities: checking out the livestock and creative exhibits competing for ribbons, bull riding on Wednesday, going on carnival rides and taking in some of the live attractions, like a dog stunt show, a pig racing act, Disney princess meet-and-greets and more.
What is there to eat?
The Lane County Fair’s food row is teeming with both classic fair food and Oregon-specific favorites. You can review the full lineup of food vendors available on the Lane County Fair’s website, but here are three stops I’ll be looking forward to in particular:
- New England Lemonade: This soft frozen lemonade was a lifesaver last year. I won’t skip it this year, either.
- Pronto Pup: This Oregon-original variation on the corndog, which originated in Rockaway Beach before making its public debut in Portland in 1941, is the oldest food vendor at the county fair. (Pronto Pups are fried in batter that’s closer to a pancake, while classic corndogs are fried in cornmeal-based batters.)
- Smok’N Gingers BBQ: I am still thinking about the brisket mac and cheese I got from Smok’N Gingers BBQ last year. They have mac and cheese, pulled pork and brisket mac and cheese, loaded nachos and more.
What musicians are playing?
There are five concerts, one for each night of the county fair. Tickets to each concert, available for purchase online, also include the day’s admission.
- Country singer-songwriter Ned LeDoux will be playing at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Tickets start at $30.
- Rome from Sublime with Rome will be playing at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. General admission tickets start at $31, with bleacher seats for $16.
- Blue Öyster Cult will be playing at 7:30 p.m. Friday. General admission tickets start at $31, with bleacher seats for $16.
- Justin Moore will be playing at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. General admission tickets start at $40, with bleacher seats for $16.
- Lecrae will be playing at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. General admission tickets start at $31, with bleacher seats for $16.
What should I bring?
The most important thing to remember is that you should bring a clear bag. Attendees are allowed one approved bag per person, and plenty of bags are not allowed on the fair grounds. Here’s the fair’s bag policy:
There’s also the fair’s open drink container policy to follow. Only factory-sealed beverages (not alcohol), empty reusable water bottles, and necessary formula/baby bottles for infants and toddlers are allowed.
What’s the weather supposed to be like?
It’s going to be hot this week, especially on the first day of the fair, according to the National Weather Service forecast.
- On Wednesday, it should be sunny, with a high near 97 degrees, then cooling off with a low around 59.
- On Thursday, it will be sunny with a high near 88 , then mostly clear with a low around 55 degrees.
- On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, it’s expected to be sunny with a high near 85, and clear in the evenings with lows near 54 degrees.
