Another home burglary targeting Asian business owners has been reported in Eugene, less than two weeks after four people were sentenced for their roles in similar burglaries in Oregon and Washington.

The latest burglary, reported shortly after 10 p.m. Friday, July 17, “fits the patterns of previous burglaries targeting Asian homes and valuables while they are at work,” police said in a news release.

Cash and other valuables were taken from a home in west Eugene, near Northwest Expressway. Police said the burglary also involved the moving of security cameras.

Previous burglaries involved the screening and surveillance of potential victims, police said, with homes entered and valuables taken while residents are at work.

More than 23 such burglaries have taken place in the Eugene-Springfield area since late 2023, according to the Asian American Council of Oregon.

Police advised residents to keep a look out for neighbors and to check shrubbery for hidden cameras. Burglars have worn delivery company vests to deflect suspicion in previous cases. Suspicious activity can be reported to Eugene police at 541-682-5111.

Federal and state prosecutors charged seven men arrested by Eugene police last October in connection with multiple burglaries. 

Four were sentenced July 7, with the sentences ranging from one year and a day to 21 months in prison. All four are Colombian nationals without lawful status and are expected to be deported upon completion of their prison sentences. At least one of the other three suspects was already deported by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
