Shift Community Cycles will host a Free Bikes 4 Kidz donation collection drive Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its two locations:

  • Its bike shop at 811 W. Sixth Ave., at the corner of Monroe Street.
  • Its programming space at 190 W. Eighth Ave., downtown at the corner of Charnelton Street.

Shift, a Lane County nonprofit organization that offers a community bike shop and bicycle resource center, is looking to donate 600 bikes in 2026 to children (and adults) in need. Shift has donated 150 bikes so far this year, but now needs additional donations.

Shift organizes dozens of volunteers to clean, refurbish and test the bikes before they are reintroduced to the community. Any missing or broken parts are replaced, and a certified bike mechanic inspects the bike.

Free Bikes 4 Kidz originated in Minneapolis in 2008. Nationally, the organization gives away 5,000 to 6,000 bicycles a year. The Eugene chapter of Free Bikes 4 Kidz merged with Shift Community Cycles in 2025.
