A 15-year-old Eugene boy died in a single-vehicle crash Aug. 17 southeast of Cottage Grove, according to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded at about 2:45 p.m. to Brumbaugh Lane near Allen Road, where a green Ford F-150 had crashed into a tree. 

The boy, a passenger in the truck’s rear seat, died at the scene, according to court documents. A sheriff’s office spokesperson provided the boy’s age and place of residence but declined to name him, citing his status as a juvenile.

Brumbaugh Lane is a gravel road between Blue Mountain School and Allen roads and has steep ditches on both sides, according to an affidavit seeking a court order to seize the pickup.

The affidavit describes visible marks indicative of a sideways slide on the roadway until a point where the truck appeared to have slid off the road and down an embankment.

A witness who lives nearby and drove to the site after hearing a loud crash told deputies they saw two juveniles inside the vehicle and two juveniles outside the vehicle, according to the affidavit. Two occupants of the front seat sustained injuries in the crash.
