A reopening celebration for University Park in Eugene is scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29.

Renovations on the 2.81-acre park at 24th Avenue and University Street began in September 2025 and include:

  • A new basketball court foundation, surfacing and nets
  • Updated lighting
  • A new bigger playground
  • Sidewalk and accessibility improvements
  • Restroom stall doors and year-round plumbing additions
  • More seating and picnic tables

A news release from the city of Eugene said the celebration will include food trucks, water play, lawn games, ice cream, vendor booths, live music and a tie-dye station. The celebration is sponsored by Eugene Parks and Open Space and South University Neighborhood Association.

The renovation was funded by a parks and recreation bond voters approved in 2018.
