A 42-year-old Springfield man has been arrested in connection with a May 3 stabbing that left a victim with a chest wound requiring 62 stitches, Springfield police said.
Phillip Stiggins is alleged to have stabbed another man “during a dispute over property” in the 2800 block of El Toro Court.
The victim sustained stab wounds including the slashing wound to his chest and was interviewed by police at Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield, police said in a news release. Along with the interview, officers investigated the scene, leading to the identification of Stiggins as a suspect, police said.
Detectives Thursday, May 21, identified a vehicle on Interstate 5 as connected with Stiggins, then followed the vehicle to Eugene and identified Stiggins as a passenger.
Police took Stiggins into custody after a traffic stop, and he was charged Friday with first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
