A moped rider sustained severe injuries Tuesday, April 28, after a collision north of Lorane, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Deputies responded at 8 p.m. to Territorial Highway at Old Lorane Road. The moped rider was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Initial investigation found that a 2005 Ford F-550 box truck heading north crossed over into an opposing lane of traffic, colliding with the southbound moped, the sheriff’s office said.
The truck driver remained at the scene, and anyone with information about the collision may call the sheriff’s office at 541-682-4150, Option 1, and reference case 26-2090.
A 2019 Lane County report noted that the 6-mile stretch of Territorial Highway between the community of Lorane and the intersection with Lorane Highway at Gillespie Corners had a relatively high percentage of freight traffic.
The county completed a portion of a project aimed at improving safety along the stretch of road and recently applied for a grant from the federal Safe Streets and Roads for All program, county spokesperson Devon Ashbridge said.
“If successful that grant would help provide traffic calming, curve warning, and intersection warning improvements to Territorial and Lorane highways,” Ashbridge said in an email.
