A previous version of this story incorrectly listed the recommended sentence for Elisha Joe Young.
A 38-year-old Springfield woman pleaded guilty Tuesday, March 24, to stealing from her employer, Eugene Weekly.
Elisha Joe Young pleaded guilty in Lane County Circuit Court to three counts of first-degree aggravated theft and two counts of first-degree theft. She is expected back in court May 27 for a sentencing hearing.
Young worked as a business manager for the newspaper, which disclosed losses of at least $100,000 from the thefts.
Court documents show Young entered into a plea deal with prosecutors, who are recommending a sentence of 36 months in prison and a requirement to pay unspecified restitution.
An indictment lists theft amounts of $10,000 or more for each of the three separate aggravated theft counts and $1,000 or more for each of the first-degree theft counts. The thefts took place over a roughly two-year period, beginning in July 2021.
