A 30-year-old man was stabbed in downtown Eugene in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Aug. 26, police said.
Medics drove the man to a local hospital with injuries that were not life threatening, Eugene police spokesperson Melinda McLaughlin said.
Police responded at about 2:35 a.m. to Charnelton Street and West Broadway.
The man reportedly had approached three unidentified people, who then stabbed and beat him before going through his pockets, McLaughlin said. The three suspects reportedly fled east after the assault, McLaughlin said.
Police were dispatched to an initial report that someone had been shot, but there was no evidence of a shooting, McLaughlin said. Police continue to investigate, McLaughlin said.
In downtown, which has a large unhoused population, fewer assaults were reported in the first half of this year, according to Eugene police.
Police data showed 40 calls reporting an assault through the first six months of this year, down from 58 calls during the same time period the previous year and also lower than the 49 assault calls in the first six months of 2023.
