QuickTake:

Tyson Alger, who has been writing a Substack called The I-5 Corridor, is our new reporter focused on University of Oregon athletics.

One of the most-asked questions I hear: “Are you going to cover the Ducks?”

It’s been thrown my way at least 100 times since February – no exaggeration. My answer has always been: “Absolutely. We just need to find the right person.”

Today I can share that we found the right person.

Tyson Alger, who covered the Ducks for The Oregonian and The Athletic before branching out on his own to create and run The I-5 Corridor, is Lookout Eugene-Springfield’s new Ducks reporter.

He knows this beat as well as anyone, and we could not be more excited to welcome him.

Tyson brings more than a decade of experience on the University of Oregon sports beat. He has covered everything from Marcus Mariota’s Heisman Trophy-winning season to the Ducks’ first year in the Big 10.

Since branching out on his own with The I-5 Corridor, Tyson has shown his ability to tell stories that go beyond the revenue programs and the preview-gamer-analysis repeat-cycle of covering sports. We will have something from every game, but you can expect Tyson’s work to speak to the core Ducks fan who is looking for more than just a summary of the top moments.

“It’s an honor to pioneer Lookout Eugene-Springfield’s coverage of the University of Oregon athletic department,” Tyson said. “Oregon is a national brand with teams and athletes that resonate far beyond the state. But at the core of my coverage has always been the people behind the stats — their stories and their place in the community.

At Lookout Eugene-Springfield, I’ve found a home that shares those same goals and values. I can’t wait to get started.”

In addition to Tyson coming to Lookout Eugene-Springfield, we are also happy to announce that his entire and extensive archive from the past four years will soon be available to Lookout Eugene-Springfield members.

The only way to ensure you have access to all of Tyson’s coverage is to become a member.
