Live updates: Boise ties Oregon late in the 3rd

University of Oregon opens its season at Autzen Stadium against Boise State. Tyson Alger and Lindsay Schnell will have all the updates and you can follow along here.

Get ready for the game with Tyson’s Game Day. And Tyson also traced the path Dan Lanning took from Kansas to Pittsburgh, a path that would ultimately end up in Eugene.

Third quarter:

3:08 p.m.: We’re tied back up after the most impressive play of the game: a diving catch from Boise State tight end Matt Wagner in the back of the end zone. There’s 1:20 to play in the third and we’re tied at 24-24. 

2:56 p.m.: The Oregon Ducks have taken their first lead of the 2026 season. Sure, the Ducks took the scenic route in getting there, but after Dante Moore connected with Jeremiah McClellan for an 8-yard touchdown — Moore’s second TD pass of the day — the Ducks would shed the 17-17 gridlock and eventually take a 24-17 lead with 5:36 to play in the third.

2:42 p.m.: The Ducks opened up the half with another explosive pass to Evan Stewart, however, Oregon’s momentum stalled in the red zone and the Ducks had to settle for a field goal. 

Gage Hurych is good from 25 yards out and the game is now tied at 17 with 11:30 to play in the third quarter. 

End of first half: Boise State 17, Oregon 14

2:08 p.m.: The Ducks just pulled themselves right back into this game. Despite the poor first two-minute attempt, the Ducks forced another Boise State three-and-out and got the ball around midfield with a minute remaining. After Jordon Davison converted a third down on the ground, the Ducks found the end zone when Dante Moore connected with Jamari Johnson for the 27-yard score.

It’s 17-14 Boise now, with the Ducks getting the ball to start the second half.

2 p.m.: Just heard some boos from the stands as Dante Moore slides on third down, with 1:30 left to play, 10 yards short of a first down. The Ducks will punt — and the Broncos have a chance to play add-on before the half ends.

1:52 p.m.: Oregon’s defense did what it could considering the field position, but the Broncos still managed a field goal to push the score to 17-7 here with 2:48 to play in the half.

Still, the Ducks will come away from that series disappointed, however, after the drive was kept alive by offsides and included a personal foul on Bear Alexander.

Ducks got lucky.

1:41 p.m.: For the second time this game, Oregon lined up at midfield, facing fourth-and-1 against a smaller, less talented and less wealthy roster. Both times the Ducks passed the ball. And both times the Ducks came up short. 

Once again, Boise State takes over with great field position. It’s 14-7 BSU with 7:30 to go in the quarter. 

1:30 p.m.: Third consecutive punt forced by Oregon’s defense — but this one comes with disaster as Oregon returner Evan Stewart miffs the return, fumbles and Boise recovers. One play later, the Broncos took it to the end zone on a 37-yard pass from Madsen to Sire Gaines. It’s 14-7 Boise with 10:14 to play in the second.

That’s two key special teams gaffes so far for the Ducks, who also fair-caught a punt in the first quarter within their own 5-yard-line.

1:23 p.m.: The Oregon Ducks have scored their first touchdown of the year, courtesy of a 1-yard Jordon Davison run up the middle. Great drive for the Ducks, who use 8 plays to drive 50 yards to even the score at 7-7. 

1:20 p.m.: An unusual roar in the middle of the quarter break and … turns out we had a sideline proposal! Looks like an Oregon cheerleader got a first-half surprise hit based on the tears, I’d say she’s plenty happy about it. Crowd loves it, too. — Lindsay

First quarter:

1:17 p.m.: The Ducks trail Boise State 7-0 at the end of the first quarter. Thankfully for Oregon, it seems the defense has at least woken up. After allowing a touchdown on Boise State’s first drive of the game, the Ducks’ defense responded with consecutive three-and-outs — the most recent one propelled by a Bailey Ettridge punt that pinned the Broncos on their own goal line. 

The Ducks will begin the second quarter with the ball and will look to establish a running game. So far, Oregon’s run nine passing plays to just one run. — Tyson

1:09 p.m.: Oregon’s second drive had a moment of excitement — a 50-yard heave from Dante Moore to Jeremiah McClellan — but that’s all the Ducks could muster. After a punt, Boise State will take over on its own 1. The Broncos still lead 7-0 with 2:06 to play in the first quarter — Tyson

1:02 p.m.: That was a more encouraging series for Oregon’s hyped defense. With Boise beginning with favorable field position, the Ducks force a three-and-out — capped by Bear Alexander’s first sack of the season. — Tyson

12:57 p.m.: Boise tried to get Oregon into the game there, taking a risk with an unsuccessful onside kick attempt to follow its touchdown. The Ducks could do nothing with it, though, picking up one first down before turning the ball over on downs at midfield.

12:51 p.m.: So much for jet — and bus — lag. Boise State marches upfield, converting a pair of third downs, to score a touchdown on the game’s first drive. Boise’s score came on a touchdown pass from Maddux Madsen to a wide-open Cam Bates. Notably, Madsen also completed a pass to himself on the drive.

12 p.m.: Hello from the press box of Autzen Stadium, where the Oregon Ducks and Boise State Broncos are on the field and 30 minutes away from this afternoon’s kickoff.

The storm has given way to mostly blue skies, the seats are green and yellow and we’re ready to get this thing going.

Is Boise? The Broncos had a long travel day to Oregon yesterday. We’ll see how that 24.5-point line looks once the blood gets pumping.
