QuickTake:
Here are the basics on the Ducks’ next opponent, the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The Ducks need to be ready for a very stingy defense and a dynamic running game.
The Oregon Ducks are heading to the Orange Bowl.
Following Oregon’s 51-34 win over James Madison in Round 1 of the College Football Playoff, the Ducks advance to face No. 4 Texas Tech in Miami on New Year’s Day.
It’s Oregon’s second consecutive trip to the playoff quarterfinal round and its first-ever appearance in the Orange Bowl.
Awaiting the Ducks is a Texas Tech team that went 12-1 in 2025, including a 34-7 stomping of BYU in the Big 12 Championship game on Dec. 6.
The Red Raiders are led defensively by Jacob Rodriguez, one of the best linebackers in the country. Rodriguez totaled 117 tackles and 11 tackles for loss, forced seven fumbles and intercepted four passes. The Texas Tech defense also features David Bailey, who recorded 13.5 sacks off the edge in 2025.
Texas Tech hasn’t allowed more than 27 points all season and has given up 20 or more points just twice.
On offense, the Red Raiders ranked third nationally in scoring and fifth in total offense, powered by a dynamic backfield. Cameron Dickey rushed for 1,095 yards, while J’Koby Williams totaled 1,158 yards from scrimmage.
Quarterback Behren Morton completed 67% of his passes for 22 touchdowns and four interceptions. He’s not much of a rushing threat, though. Morton finished the season with minus-81 rushing yards.
