I write to differ in perspective from Richard Roseta’s recent letter to the editor about politicians expressing concerns over PeaceHealth’s contract with ApolloMD. The national standards he refers to are regarding training, not day-to-day decisions affecting care. His mistaken belief that there is no “significant difference” in care, because both groups of ER physicians are covered by medical negligence coverage, is not a comfort when you need care.

Regarding his claim that “ApolloMD states that medical care decisions will not be changed in any way”: How is that possible when ApolloMD incentivizes fewer minutes with each patient? How is that possible when the new recruits would have little or no knowledge of resources in our community?

When my loved one needs emergency care, I’d prefer not to receive care from someone “incentivized” to spend fewer minutes to make complex medical decisions. Would you feel the same?
