As a Eugene resident, but a 30-year homeowner on Woahink Lake, I hope voters in Dunes City will reject the ballot measure proposing the adoption of restrictive short-term rental policies that will effectively eliminate local vacation rentals.
Existing city law already requires short-term rentals to obtain permits, pay fees, share rental income and comply with operating requirements. The permitting process is there, and should be used, to deal with residents who are not complying.
Voters should rely on common-sense management rather than reacting to a very small number of violators — perhaps as few as one — by imposing sweeping restrictions upon its residents.
