Eugene is paying for a sidewalk around the federal building. Why don’t we invoice the feds instead? | Letter to the editor

So, as I understand it, the federal government overreacted to an ICE protest and constructed a fence around the Eugene Federal Building, which encroached on a city of Eugene sidewalk. Now the city is paying $50,000 to build a new sidewalk outside the fence.

I certainly hope the bill is being forwarded to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which has been gifted by Congress with more than $60 billion of our taxes this year. And DHS can send the bill for the broken window to the city.
