Looks like the notorious Roy Cohn, Trump’s mentor, fixer and power broker for 13 years, has a new acolyte: Lane County Commissioner David Loveall. Loveall’s filing of a 35-page lawsuit against Lane County, three fellow county commissioners and county administrator Steve Mokrohisky smacks of Cohn’s aggressive tactics that Trump learned at Cohn’s knee: never settle; attack, attack, attack; deny, deny, deny!
Unlike Trump, however, Loveall has no one to throw under the bus for his censured behavior. But, hey! look at all the free publicity piling up by filing this frivolous lawsuit just ahead of the May primaries. Radio and television interviews, newspaper coverage, podcasts. Publicity all coyly packaged with this implied campaign slogan: Woe is me! They won’t let me be free! I’m a victim, can’t you see? Vote for me!
Nevertheless, if voters show they’ve had enough of Loveall’s divisive, unaccountable and whiny behavior, and he loses his seat (that he won by just 98 votes in 2022), he can, no doubt, buy a position in Trump’s orbit that comes with a guaranteed pardon for any bad behavior. But only if Loveall purchases Trump commemorative gold coins, cryptocurrency or Trump bibles printed in China and sold in Oklahoma for indoctrination in public schools.
