I have to respond to a letter published on May 6 about Springfield having the “guts” to enforce no camping laws.
Of course, people had to relocate to Eugene because they don’t have many options. My question is, where will the people go if Eugene gets tougher on homeless people?
Since Springfield is doing so well now, maybe that city could build a shelter to take up the slack and give people another option for housing. I hope Springfield has the tax structure to raise enough revenue to pay for it.
The housing crisis will persist as long as billionaires don’t have to pay taxes, so I guess it’s up to the rest of us to support homeless people through local initiatives paid by local taxes.
