The True Value Hardware warehouse, which employs 62 people in Springfield, will close at the end of the year, according to a notice filed with state regulators.
A Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice dated Monday, Aug. 3 was sent to the state, Lane County and the city of Springfield by Impact Workforce Solutions, the staffing agency that supplies workers to the facility. Impact said it had been informed by TV Hardware Distribution — a subsidiary of Do It Best, True Value’s parent company — that it would shut down the warehouse.
The WARN notice also stated that layoffs would begin Oct. 3 and continue through Dec. 31 at the Springfield location.
State law requires many employers to give a 60-day notice to affected employees, as well as state and local officials, before conducting a mass layoff or closing a plant. The idea is to give employees and their families more time to prepare.
Of the 62 positions to be terminated at the Olympic Street warehouse, 43 are merchandise handlers, with the remainder split among clerical, supervisor and maintenance roles. According to the notice, employees of this site are not represented by a union.
Impact Workforce Solutions and Do It Best did not immediately respond to requests for comment by Lookout Eugene-Springfield.
