Quick Take:
A wave of openings, closures and expansions is bringing new food and retail businesses to the 5th Street Public Market.
The 5th Street Public Market and Market Alley is experiencing transition as businesses come and go in the popular shopping and dining destination. While Small Batch Jam Co. recently closed its doors, the market is simultaneously welcoming a wave of new establishments.
Small Batch Jam Co. closed its small shop in the 5th Street Market Alley Aug. 24 and is now empty. The owner of the jam shop, based in Pacifica, California, made jam from berries and fruits grown on Oregon farms.
An announcement on the shop’s Instagram account said, “That’s a wrap Eugene. We’ve made the decision to close our store at the 5th Street Public Market. We’re proud of what we were able to do in Eugene, but it became too much to run the store from CA, so today will be our last day.”
On Aug. 28, Obie Companies, which owns and manages the Market District, released a statement outlining other changes across the property.
One upcoming opening in the Eateries & Bar food court area includes Shout Candy Co., which will provide “a nostalgia-driven candy shop experience.” Already open in the Eateries is Eugene Burger Company, which expanded into a larger space, rebranding as Eugene Burger Company and Bar, now offering a full beverage menu.
In late September, Poppi’s Anatolia will move from its 10th and Willamette location into the former Pho King Eugene space. The restaurant, which has been at 992 Willamette St. for 37 years serving Greek and Mediterranean dishes, will open in early October as Poppi’s Greek Taverna, reflecting new branding.
The Racks at 5th Street Market Alley is expanding with a second location next to Marley’s Monsters, selling curated fashion and accessories that will take over the three previously unoccupied spaces.
McKenzie River Brewing is opening a tasting room in Makers Row, next to Euphoria Chocolate Co. While Market Alley visitors can now experience distilled spirits at Heritage Distilling Co.’s tasting room, the McKenzie River tasting room will provide a new local craft beer experience.
Blended is expanding into the space adjacent to its current location and will be offering a new menu of grab-and-go and healthy lunch options. Blended owners told Lookout they were targeting a late summer opening.
SoMuchLove recently opened in the Market Alley in the space next to Art with Alejandro, adding art, apparel and music to the retail mix.
Vita Health is launching its new location at Station Square, which is across the street from the Market on Fifth Avenue, bringing wellness and supplements.
Earlier this year, Reds Boutique, selling clothing and accessories, opened in the space next to Freudian Slip, and La Estación Mexican Cosina began serving traditional Mexican dishes in the Eateries & Bar.
“Every new business at the Market brings more than just products or flavors — they bring their stories, their passions, and an invitation to connect,” Natane Berger, Market Manager at 5th Street Public Market, said in the announcement. “We encourage our visitors to meet the owners, experience their creativity, and become part of the vibrant community we’re building here. The Market is a place where connections happen, memories are made, and the spirit of Eugene comes alive.”
