For more than a decade, Tyson Alger has covered the Oregon Ducks with a focus on context, connection and storytelling that goes far beyond the box score.

As the Oregon beat writer for The Oregonian, The Athletic, and his own site, The I-5 Corridor, Tyson’s distinctive voice and thoughtful angles have made him one of the region’s must-reads on UO sports and college football.

He started on the beat during Marcus Mariota’s Heisman Trophy–winning season, navigated the rollercoaster of the Willie Taggart and Mario Cristobal exits and has chronicled the Ducks’ evolution from a fast-paced football contender into an overall dominant Big Ten athletic department.

Originally from Palmer, Alaska, and a proud University of Montana graduate, Tyson has called Oregon home since 2012.

In recent years, he’s become an increasingly below-average ice hockey player — and is seriously considering making the switch to curling.
