Trying to add a payment method? You can do this on the Patricia “Patty” Marie (Laughlin) Everett, 72, died Aug. 31 following a long illness. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Patty was born in Anaconda, MT., on March 16, 1954, missing St. Patrick’s Day by minutes.
The third of seven children in an Irish Catholic home in Goosetown, she was a natural helper at the Laughlin house and often referred to as “mamacita.” She cared deeply for her younger siblings. Walking Fran to his first day of school, letting Katy polish her drill team boots, & paid for Squeak’s class ring with her car hop wages.
Patty was an A student in school and a social butterfly, making lifelong friendships at St. Peter’s and Anaconda High School. She was on the Copper Cadet drill team and never missed a football game or wrestling match.
She was a true Anacondan and fiercely proud of her Irish heritage. She favored St. Patrick’s Day above all other holidays, even an Irish Christmas tree. She grew into a woman grounded in fairness and righteousness.
Patty married Pat Everett on Dec. 27, 1976. It was an Anaconda wedding to be remembered with dancing, antics and ending in a lumberyard fire.
Patty earned a BSN in Nursing from Montana State and her Master’s in Nursing from UO Eugene in 1979. She only knew success in her career. Working at Sacred Heart Hospital as an ICU RN and an outstanding nurse educator for 36 years. She taught countless critical care nurses the skills and art of excellence. She really was a nursing celebrity.
Patty and Pat raised a beautiful family with two sons, Brian, born in 1982, and Timothy, born in 1984. She made her boys play clothes and Halloween costumes galore. She passed down her wit, generosity, and sense of social justice. She never missed a single of her son’s musical performances.
She cherished being a grandmother, offering love, support, and wisdom. She taught Anders and Frey that love is strength.
Patty was funny, practical, intelligent, protective, and could go “full tilt” if necessary. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and cousin. Remember her as you will and let the stories and love live on.
Patty was preceded in death by her parents, Hank and Mary Laughlin, and her brother, Tom Laughlin.
She is survived by her husband Pat, her sons Brian (Caitlin), Tim (Jesse), grandchildren Anders and Freya, her sisters Abby, Katy Derzay, brothers Tony, Dan, and Fran Laughlin, many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. She will be missed immensely.
A celebration of life is Oct. 3 in Eugene at 4:00 PM. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
