Eugene looks to increase parking fees for on-street spots, garages and lots

The city of Eugene is proposing increased parking rates citywide.

Under the proposed administrative order, signed Aug. 31, the monthly cost of a parking permit for nearly all downtown parking garages and surface lots will increase by $5, and the price of most downtown residential street parking permits will go up by about $10.

The cost of parking near campus, both metered on-street parking and residential parking permits, will also see price hikes.

“These changes will help us keep providing clean, safe and accessible parking options that support both community livability and local business,” the city’s website states. “Rates haven’t been adjusted across the board since 2019, and updating them now will better reflect the current cost of maintaining parking facilities and services.”

The city is encouraging residents to share their comments on the proposed parking rate changes by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, using an online form. Written feedback can be sent to Parking Services at the Atrium Building, 99 W. 10th Ave., Suite 116. Call 541-682-5729 to make comments over the phone.

After the comment period closes, the city manager and the parking services team will review input and recommend a final administrative order.

City leaders said in June that Eugene’s parking services fund, which manages the city’s on- and off-street parking, is experiencing lagging revenue collection due to meter vandalism, increasing unpaid citations and staff vacancies, leading to a $350,000 projected annual gap next budget cycle.
