Good evening,
Bob Passaro is, hopefully, sipping on a glass of bourbon, happily enjoying a few days away from the office. That means I get to write the end-of-week Lookout PM.
So here goes.
Tyler James Johnson, who was shot by Eugene police last November, was sentenced to 18 months in prison today on menacing and weapons charges. Jaime Adame also reports that the police shooting was ruled justified.
Our friends at the Oregon Journalism Project were in Hillsboro yesterday for the first debate featuring the top four Republican candidates for Oregon governor. It also gave, as Nigel Jaquiss writes, a chance to see the height difference between 6-foot-11 former Portland Trail Blazer Chris Dudley and slightly over 5-foot state Sen. Christine Drazan.
We also had a pretty busy Community Voices page today, with letters from a former doctor who is “shocked” at what is happening at PeaceHealth RiverBend; a former member of the Eugene City Council who is endorsing Sean VanGordon for county commissioner; and a Lookout Eugene-Springfield reader who just wanted to say congrats on our first anniversary.
Also, if you were not able to attend our election forums earlier this week, we have posted them on our 2026 Elections landing page — and they are now available as individual videos so you can quickly watch the session you are most interested in.

And finally, for the second time, an inflatable frog graces The Look Around, a collection of photos from Isaac Wasserman. Click here to see all of his photos.

The four top hopefuls generally ignored each other and the elephant (not) in the room.
Enjoy your evening,
