Police pulled over 35 drivers Thursday, March 26, during a targeted effort to catch speeding vehicles on River Road, according to a news release.
A 35-mph speed limit now extends to a 5-mile stretch of River Road north of Railroad Boulevard to Beacon Drive, after city and state officials approved a change in December. Previously, sections of River Road north of Azalea Drive had speed limits of 40 mph or 45 mph.Â
Police issued 22 citations Thursday afternoon, with one driver clocked at 63 mph, the news release said. Officers also issued 11 written warnings.
In addition to speeding, officers found seat belt violations, expired registrations and drivers with a suspended license, among other violations, police said.Â
Future speed patrols as well as routine patrols are planned along the entire length of River Road, police spokesperson Melinda McLaughlin said.
