As social and infrastructure needs pile up, all the scouring of various potential sources of funding makes me think of a tax that was collected everywhere I lived before I moved to Oregon: a sales tax. With basic necessities exempted, and a limit set on percentage, a sales tax could pay for a lot of things we need and want.

I know I’m going to get hate mail, and that a sales tax would be passed over a lot of dead bodies, but it is the elephant in the room.
