Good morning, Lookout Eugene-Springfield,

It was the first day of school for kindergartners in 4J yesterday. These are the 5-year-olds who were born during COVID. Lilly St. Angelo spoke with parents about how the isolation of that time shaped their children. And Isaac Wasserman’s accompanying photos are adorable.

Mike McInally was at the Lane Community College board of education meeting last night, where former board chair Zachary Mulholland was censured for his behavior toward the college president.

The latest Springfield City Council meeting was eventful, too, and not just because several firefighters were there to advocate for a fire district. As Lillian Schrock-Clevenger reports, 12 people spoke against the potential use of Flock Safety license-plate recognition cameras by Springfield police, and councilors seemed moved by their comments.

Tyson Alger spoke with Oregon baseball coach Mark Wasikowski about his busy summer on the recruiting trail — and what it’s going to take to get the Ducks to the College World Series.

If you’re making your weekend plans, Annie Aguiar has you covered, with seven events going on around the area.
