Four Lane County girls basketball teams have earned slots in the Oregon School Activities Association state tournaments so far, though squads at the county’s larger schools will have to wait another week or so for playoff brackets to be unveiled.

Here’s how the playoff picture is shaping up thus far for Lane County teams:

3A

Both Creswell and Pleasant Hill earned byes to the second round of the 3A tournament, and each will host a game Saturday, Feb. 28.

  • Coquille at Pleasant Hill, 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The Billies (17-9) claimed this spot in the tournament and the No. 7 seed in part by beating rival Sisters in a conference playoff game last week. But Coquille (18-6 overall) could be a tough opponent: the Red Devils racked up nine straight wins this season before falling twice to Sutherlin.
  • Burns or Jefferson at Creswell, Saturday, time to be determined. The Bulldogs (19-6) have to wait for the winner of a first-round game Wednesday between Burns and Jefferson to learn their second-round opponent Saturday. Creswell has won nine straight games, including a pair of victories over Pleasant Hill, most recently in a conference playoff game.

Second-round winners advance to the state tournament, March 5-7 at Marshfield High School in North Bend.

1A

  • St. Paul at Mapleton, Wednesday, 6 p.m.: The Sailors (18-5) host St. Paul (17-10) in what on paper shapes up as one of the tournament’s tightest first-round matches: Mapleton is the No. 16 seed in the 32-team tournament, while the Buckaroos are No. 17. Mapleton is on a hot streak; after a slow start, the team has rattled off 15 straight wins.
  • Mohawk at North Lake, Wednesday, 5 p.m. The Mustangs, the No. 22 seed in the tournament, travel to North Lake for this first-round showdown. Mohawk (20-5) finished third in the Mountain West League, and faces the Cowgirls, the tournament’s No. 11 seed, with a trip to the second round on the line.

First-round winners advance to second-round games scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28. Second-round winners move to the state tournament in Baker, March 5-7.
