QuickTake:

On the first full Friday night of the 2025 prep football season, it was tough sledding for most Lane County teams.

It was a rough Friday night for most of Lane County’s prep football teams — only four of the teams in action (Willamette, Cottage Grove, Oakridge and Crow) scored wins.

Here’s a roundup of Friday’s football games involving Lane County teams:

Corvallis 48, North Eugene 21

The Highlanders (1-1) committed five turnovers in the first half and fell into a 28-point halftime deficit they couldn’t overcome, losing 48-21 in their home opener. The Highlanders struck first in the third quarter with a touchdown pass from D’mariyae Ireland to Solger Pescosolido to cut the lead to 28-7, but on the Spartans’ next possession, Corvallis’ Nate Bedford rumbled for an 89-yard touchdown run to put the game away. The Highlanders will try to rally next Friday, Sept. 12, with a game against South Albany.

Lake Oswego 51, Sheldon 7

The Irish traveled to Lake Oswego for a challenging opener, and learned why the Lakers are considered among the state’s top teams in a 51-7 drubbing. The Irish (0-1) stay on the road Friday, Sept. 12, for their league opener, at West Salem. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Willamette 34, South Medford 7

The Wolverines opened a 20-0 halftime lead, fueled in part by a 60-yard punt return by Hunter Vaughn for a touchdown, and led 34-0 at one point. South Medford’s only touchdown came on a blocked punt in the fourth quarter. Willamette (1-0) takes on Grants Pass on Friday, Sept. 12 in the Wolverines’ home opener.

Milwaukie-Milwaukie Academy 42, South Eugene 0

Playing at home, the Mustangs led 21-0 at halftime and tacked on three more TDs in the second half to ruin South Eugene’s opener. The Axe players (0-1) return home on Friday, Sept. 12 for their home opener against North Eugene.

Silverton 35, Thurston 6

The Foxes led 28-0 at halftime and put the game away with a touchdown early in the fourth quarter to post a victory over the Colts. Next up for the Colts (1-1): their home opener Friday, Sept. 12 against Eagle Point.

Dallas 30, Churchill 6

A week after Churchill posted an impressive opening win over Marist, the Lancers fell flat in a road game against Dallas. The Lancers (1-1) will try to resume their winning ways Friday, Sept. 12 with their home opener against Roseburg. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Tillamook 35, Marist 21

The Spartans scored a touchdown early in the fourth quarter and trailed by just seven points, 28-21, but the Cheesemakers responded with another touchdown with about four minutes to play and Marist turned the ball over on its next possession. Marist (0-2) will try to grab its first win of the season Friday, Sept. 12 with a road game — its third of the season — against Henley.
