Restaurant inspections
County officials regularly inspect food facilities to ensure compliance with state laws. Here, Lookout Eugene-Springfield reports both those who have passed the inspections and those where the county observed issues to correct. The county’s full ongoing reports can be accessed here.
- Subway – Mohawk at 1657 Mohawk, passed a county health inspection on December 29 with no issues. (view report)
- Hawaiian Island Grill at 1661 Mohawk Blvd., was cited for issues during a county health inspection on December 29. The restaurant scored 90 out of 100. The inspector found the dishwasher sanitizer was not working properly, but after fixing clogged tubing, sanitizer levels improved and the issue was resolved. A fly glue trap was stored above food containers, which was unsafe, so it was removed. Some areas had grease, smoke, and liquid buildup, including under the dishwasher and prep cooler. The restaurant was advised to clean these areas more frequently, especially when food exposure is minimal, and to consider a regular deep-cleaning schedule to maintain cleanliness. (view report)
- Jazzies Bar & Grill at 1869 Pioneer Pkwy E, was cited for issues during a county health inspection on December 29. The restaurant scored 80 out of 100. Inspectors found soap and paper towels at a three-compartment sink, which is only for washing utensils, not hands, so these must be removed. A small fridge was not keeping food cold enough, with items like half and half and juice above safe temperatures; these items were discarded and the fridge should not be used for perishable foods. Lastly, the sanitizer used was too strong, exceeding safe chlorine levels; it was diluted to the correct concentration. All issues were corrected during the inspection. (view report)
- Naya’s Taqueria at 1835 Pioneer Pkwy E, was cited for issues during a county health inspection on December 29. The restaurant scored 94 out of 100. Inspectors found employees washing hands in the wrong sink and using the handwashing sink for other purposes like storing a strainer and filling water bottles; these issues were fixed and staff will get more training. Some shelves are made of unfinished wood, which can’t be cleaned properly, so they need to be covered or sealed with a smooth, non-absorbent material. Also, the restroom door was left open and must have a self-closing mechanism installed or repaired to keep it closed. (view report)

Note on today’s report: Some of the incidents listed are not recent. This can happen for a couple of reasons: Delays in agency reporting — sometimes officials don’t file reports right away, or agencies release batches of reports weeks later. Delays in public complaints — people may not notice or decide to contact police until some time after an incident. Please contact the responsible law-enforcement agency or your local elected officials if you have concerns about their delay in releasing information.
