No, your buddy is not good friends with Dan Lanning.
He may try to provide proof. He might pull out his phone, thumb through his camera roll and show a video that has the Oregon coach wishing him a happy birthday or congratulating him on the job promotion or just really going for it was one of those quintessential Lanning “Progrums.”
And while that video may be real, just know, you’re trying to be fooled.
See, as of this week, Lanning is the latest celebrity โ is that the right word? โ to join the platform Cameo, where people can pay a fee to have their favorite stars personalize a video message.
For Oregon Ducks fans with a spare $165, you can get something like this:
OK, so enough burying the lede here: Lanning isn’t suddenly in need of cash. The coach launched the page on Saturday with the goal of raising $50,000 to support theย Sam Day Foundation,ย a nonprofit advancing research and providing support for children battling cancer, specifically sarcoma and brain tumors.
It’s a noble cause that, according to Cameo, has so far raised more than $6,500.
Now, I just have to start scraping together some change from my couch cushions so I can get a full-on practice report.
A good day for football

The roar of the crowd returned to Autzen Stadium on Saturday.
So what if it was a scrimmage? More than 45,000 fans still turned out to watch the Ducks beat the Ducks โ and celebrate the unofficial start to Oregon’s march towards September’s regular season opener.
Dakorien Moore was great. Dylan Raiola was stellar. And for Dan Lanning’s Ducks, everything felt like business as usual.
Eugene Marathon draws thousands

The spring football game wasn’t the only event in town over the weekend.
The annual Eugene Marathon and Half Marathon returned Sunday, drawing thousands of runners and even more spectators to Hayward Field and city streets under sunny morning skies. The race, which serves as a qualifier for major long-distance running events, attracted a mix of elite athletes and first-time marathoners from all 50 states and 27 countries.
A total of 9,210 runners โ 4,536 marathoners and 4,674 half marathoners โ crossed the finish line by 3:35 p.m., according to race results. Organizers projected about 10,000 total finishers and reported roughly 1,500 more registrants than last year.

“I don’t put too much stock into what one side of the ball or the other side of the ball did today. This is about everybody improving and us being able to attack.”

STORIES I’m WORKING ON
Dylan Raiola looked awfully good in the spring game. Should Dante Moore be worried?
