Take solace, football fans. The wait is almost over.

We know it’s been a long and excruciating month since the Seahawks won the Super Bowl, and an even longer one since Oregon’s season ended in January’s Peach Bowl.

But the whistles come back out next week.

Oregon will begin spring practice for the 2026 football season next Thursday — kicking off the first of 15 sessions that culminate with UO’s spring game at Autzen Stadium on April 25.

But the real leatherheads started getting their fix last week during the NFL Scouting Combine, where a handful of former Oregon Ducks came out as standout performers.

Four Ducks were named to NFL.com’s “All-Combine” team. Kenyon Sadiq made it after he ran the fastest 40-yard dash (4.3) by a tight end in combine history. Safety Dillon Thieneman’s 4.35 40 time was eye-popping, too, as were workouts from defensive back Jadan Canady and linebacker Bryce Boettcher, who also picked up honors.

For Boettcher, last week was yet another step toward the former MLB draft pick fully embracing the gridiron. During his press conference at the combine, Boettcher said most NFL teams have been asking him whether he’s still pursuing his baseball career.

“That’s on hold right now,” Boettcher said. “I’m pursuing fully football right now and I want to win a Super Bowl. So, you know, all football right now.”

Now, we promise we’re not suddenly going to be all football right now here at Lookout. The women’s basketball team is fighting for positioning in March Madness, baseball and softball are well out of the gates, and I’m working on a story about the drought of a ski season we just lived through.

But we are going to be covering Ducks football throughout the next month of practices. And really, can you blame us?

Once the spring game wraps up, it’s like a whole month until the watch lists and preseason rankings start firing the engine back up.

A strong start in Indy

It wasn’t a pretty second half for the Oregon Ducks in their Round 1 win over Purdue in the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament.

But Oregon’s first half was so good it didn’t matter.

Katie Fiso finished with 20 points. Ehis Etute had 16 points and 12 rebounds. And the Oregon Ducks live to fight another day: They face No. 6 seed Maryland tonight at 6 p.m.

Mowing them down

Cal Scolari’s dominant start to the 2026 baseball season has been key to Oregon’s 10-2 race out of the starting blocks.

Of course, Oregon coach Mark Wasikowski knew what he was getting in the former San Diego pitcher — it comes with the territory when scouting an arm that’s already undergone Tommy John surgery.

“It’s commonplace now,” Wasikowski said. “Kids are going to get injured. For whatever reasons those are, it’s happening. We can debate all day, but the facts are that injuries are up. So you better have a really good medical staff and a really good feel for where those kids are at.”

Where Scolari’s at is a really good place.

His stuff has been electric. He’s struck out 20 batters in 14 innings across three starts. And Sunday saw him hone in — after walking seven batters in his first two starts, Scolari had just two in his longest outing of the year.

Duck of the week: Silan Ayyildiz, Women’s Track

GoDucks.com photo

It was a banner weekend for both the Oregon men’s and women’s track and field teams, with the Ducks taking home Big Ten Indoor team titles over the weekend.

Leading the show was Ayyildiz, a senior who accounted for 28 points by winning the mile and the 5,000 meters, coupled with a second-place finish in the 3,000.

Sorry, I just couldn’t get over the visual of Kelly Graves breaking down a tough loss to Washington on Sunday while wearing the team’s Grateful Dead-themed shirts.
