Good morning, Lookout Eugene-Springfield,
Tim Murff, beloved father, husband and owner of Sabai Cafe & Bar, died last week while on a trip to Thailand with his wife, Mon Sutthiwari. A memorial to Murff has been growing outside the restaurant in Oakway Center since. Taylor Goebel has the story.
Annie Aguiar has her weekly look at things you should consider doing. This week’s suggestions include the First Friday ArtWalk, “cosmic country” at WOW Hall, some Tina Turner at the Hult, and the cult classic “Up in Smoke” at the Art House.
Or you could just watch New England not win the Super Bowl. Side note: A Super Bowl that ends before 8 p.m. is one of my favorite things about living this far west.
Last summer, Lookout Eugene-Springfield introduced you to Alma Vasquez, owner of Peek-A-Boo Delight, a Mexican ice cream shop in downtown, about a block from Lookout’s office. Around 1:30 a.m. on Monday, vandals smashed her front door. Taylor has the details and talked with a local artist who ensured visitors to the shop have something fun to look at instead of just brown plywood.
Eugene’s weather hasn’t been very wintery this winter. I mean, this week we’ve had highs around 60. Not too shabby. But it’s not always this balmy, and sometimes you just want to get away. William Sullivan has a recommendation: Cabo. See what our favorite outdoors expert thinks about this Mexican escape.
