Lane County has decided to work with the federal Bureau of Land Management when it sits down to revise plans for managing the so-called O&C forest lands in the county, potentially opening them up to more logging. Ben Botkin was at Tuesday’s Board of Commissioners meeting and has the details.

The Marion County district attorney announced earlier this week she was opening a grand jury inquiry into the Oregon State Hospital. Lookout has been reporting on troubles at the state-run psychiatric hospital since we launched nearly a year ago. Now, the Lookout Editorial Board says that to build trust with the public, the complete proceedings of the grand jury must be released, not just a summary.

Jaime Adame reports that a judge ruled Tuesday that creating new duties for Springfield workers who refused the COVID-19 vaccine because of religious beliefs would have posed โ€œundue hardshipโ€ for PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend.

What’s $14 billion between friends? Well, if your friends are Washington and Oregon, that’s apparently what it’s going to take to build the new I-5 bridge project over the Columbia River, as the Oregon Capital Chronicle reports. And just as a reminder, when the Columbia River Crossing was killed back in 2013, the New York Times reported its price tag was in the $4 billion range, though one 2010 study said it could cost around $10 billion.
