Good morning, Lookout Eugene-Springfield,

After a few days away, I am back and just in time for Tuesday’s primary election, which makes it a good time to remind you to turn in your ballot if you haven’t already.

The idea was simple: connect people growing good with people in our community who need good. As Taylor Goebel reports, two years later, the Grow Lane County initiative has launched multiple food distribution programs and other anti-hunger efforts.

After someone is detained by federal authorities, one way they can be released is through habeas petitions. As Jaime Adame reports, these court proceedings often shed light on immigrants’ experiences and how judges view the cases. As Jaime writes, decisions in these cases can shape future ICE actions in Oregon.

“Tsunami Books screams Eugene.” As Annie Aguiar writes, the longtime local bookstore has started a drive to raise enough money to purchase its Willamette Street location. The goal: $1 million. The first goal is $200,000, then create an LLC to raise the other $800,000. With a little more than 170,000 people in Eugene, if roughly 12% chipped in $10, that would be enough to hit that first milestone.

Isaac Wasserman was at Jane Sanders Stadium during the past few days as the Oregon Ducks softball team saw its season come to an end. Here are some of the images he made from the Eugene Regional.

It was also Rhody Days in Florence last weekend, and our friend Will Yurman from West of the Tunnel was there to document all the fun.

Last week, I let you know about a few journalism awards the Lookout team has received. Since then, a second Associated Press Sports Editors award has come to 771 Willamette as Isaac took first place in action photo for the image he made at the USA Track and Field Championship.

Stories you might have missed over the weekend …

Finally, shout out to everyone who stopped by Sunday to visit with us at Bark in the Park. Jim Danzer and Olivia Desgrange manned the tent and enjoyed a beautiful day at Alton Baker Park.

To fight hunger in Lane County, help the farmer

By Taylor Goebel

Grow Lane County started with an idea: Build a food system that supports both local farmers and people experiencing food insecurity. In the two years since the $4.5 million initiative launched, myriad food distribution programs and other anti-hunger efforts have blossomed.

Out of compliance: State rules some Springfield elementary instructional materials do not meet standards

By Lilly St. Angelo

The Oregon Department of Educationโ€™s investigation into the curriculum complaint took nearly two years. The district has a plan to bring elementary science and social studies curriculum into compliance, and recently adopted a district-created science curriculum that meets state standards.
