Could Coos Bay become a major shipping port again? When timber was the product, ships were a constant presence in the deepest harbor between San Francisco and Seattle. Two lawmakers are working on a plan to revive the port and give the largest city on the southern Oregon Coast a shot in the arm. But some are skeptical about the project.

Experts skeptical about plan to bet billions on Coos Bay shipping terminal

In its glory days the port thrived on the export of wood products. Some see a future in a new terminal to accept incoming containers of goods. The plan would also require an upgrade of the Coos Bay-to-Eugene rail line.
